I have one of the old classic eheim canisters that I've been waiting to set up on one of my tanks. Except now I have to wait longer, because the cage on the intake kinda got smashed by something. Not sure if I stepped on it or what, but the little plastic cage on the intake pipe is now no longer in existence. What can I use as an alternative to replace it that won't compromise the filtration capabilities?

Not sure where the original packaging is because we got it 12 years ago, but I can buy more. Now the next step is to figure out which tank it's going on...

Plastic Easter egg with holes drilled in it.

I never use them and I have never lost a thing to it. Only fish ?
Put a stack of smaller otherwise useless rocks around it. They will stop anything else from sucking up in there. Plus it will repurpose those rocks just laying around.

You're lucky. Used to be I could tell when the intake strainer had come off because the filter would stop working due to a bristlenose jammed face first into the tube(And very dead, of course) Lost 6-7 of them that way. Good thing they were breeding like mad at the time.
