I'm looking for suggestions as to what to use for an intake strainer. I'm making a land / water set-up with Styrofoam, in a 30gl. I plan on hiding the internal filter behind the background/land stuff.
I want to use some kind of black rubber or plastic mesh as a strainer by putting a hole in the Styrofoam and gluing the mesh in place.

Any suggestions on where or what to use for this?

Thanks.

You could use a piece of screen, like the stuff you get for your windows, just make sure its not the metal kind.

I want something with slightly larger mesh size. A screen would get clogged quite easy.

Craft stores have cross stitch material (plastic) that will work. (1/8" holes)

Gutter guard would prolly work for you. I use it over the intake to my overflow. It has a nice large mesh size. You can get a roll at lowes or home depot for a few dollars.
