I intend to do a low tech tank with some live plants. I intend to use minimum lighting and no Co2 injection.

Tank: 240G 96"x24"x24"
Lights: (8) 4ft T-8 bulbs 32W.(4) 6500K & (4) 5600K
Substrate: pea gravel
Filtration: Overflows with 70G sump (bioballs) Returns will be under the waters surface
Other: Return pump 1200 gph return pump, 9W UV clarifier with 600gph pump
Fish: Sunfish, Perch, Catfish (Native tank)

Plants wanted: Anubias, Anacharis , Java fern

Will this setup work or am I wasting my $$$. I already have this equipment, so buying new lights, and a c02 setup is not cost effective. I know with my low WPG rating that Co2 would also be for the most part a waste.

why the 4 bulbs at 5600K?

I thought it may be better to mix the spectrums a bit...does this make a differance??? I have no idea, as I am very new to even thinking about any real plants.

ohhh ok i would go straight 6500K in that case you make get some nuisance algae with the 5600 but i may be wrong. On all my planted tanks i've just used 6500K.

The Flourish excel works well i use it in my tanks to i would also reccomend using "fFourish Comprehensive Supplement for the Planted Aquarium" i use both products with good results.

Do you supplement with C02?

Ditch the UV, the plants will not fair as well with it. The 5600K bulbs will not cause an algae problem any more than 6700k or 6500 K will.
