Interested in Discus

Hi there,

Domestically bred discus do not need soft water, but they do need warmer water 82-84F depending on size. Most are raised in tap water so all you need is clean water and quality food along with a reputable source. Larger discus are easier to take care of than raising juveniles.

All those parameters can be answered best by the person you are buying from...they can tell you what conditions they have been kept in.

You can either have lots of decorations like driftwood and plants or you can keep them in a bare bottom tank with just a spawning cone. They will spawn most any vertical surface. But I wouldn't worry about spawning them unless you are ready for the demands of raising discus fry.

Will they breed on a breeding slate and don't they care for the fry and what's better sand or gravel???
