Oh Sure Im a Paddy :D
Hey. I am starting to get interested in puffers. I have had a GSP before but my Sun Cat like tried to eat him and then my blind Geo tried to eat him aswell. I will have a 55Gal/200L free in a few months when i move my other fish to the 540Gal up and running. I guess what i want to know is what kind of puffer should i get? And how regularly should i trim there teeth. I am interested in Green Spotted Puffers alot. I like Cross River Puffers and Orange saddle back puffers. I would prefer to not have to go marine as they get bigger. Brackish is an option :D Thanks in advance for any info you guys gimme :)

Okay, let me just state, that a GSP needs high end brackish - marine conditions to thrive and survive...

Cross River puffers are freshwater puffers but extremely rare and carry a very high price tag... from what i've heard it can be as much as $1000+ UK Pounds...

As for a 55G tank, you could try keeping 3 SAP puffers in your 55, although they will require regular teeth trimming and snails with ALL of their meals as they have crazy teeth growth...

Yeah i know that GSP need Brackish and i knew Cross River Puffers were expensive but wow That's so much money :( I dont think i would like to trim the teeth to often. What about Avacado puffers??

Avacado or Modesta puffers are neat. very aggressive lil' cusses. but stay smallish and are imo a very pretty metallic silver/gold.

They also require regular dentistry--more than other species.

Good luck, they run ~$700.

I know it doesn't really mean anything, but i've been hunting for a cross river for the last few years and haven't ever seen one or heard of any one over here that imports them... except for one shop that claims they used to get them but haven't gotten one in for the longest of times...

I did ask them to try and import one and to call me if they got one, but unfortunately they never found one... which is why i finally ended up with a fahaka...
