Just wanted to share an interesting aro factoid I learned today. :) Just going through some old magazines and found this...

"The forth gill arch of the arowana grows in a spiral shape, and was originally thought to be a more efficient means of breathing. Recent studies conducted on the African arowana have shown, however, that this strange organ is actually used for filter feeding, allowing the fish to live on microscopic cruestaceans and other tiny bits of plant and animal matter when lerger food items are not available."

My question to everybody is does this apply only to the African Aro or to all aros?

im no aro expert tho so.. just wait for a better answer.. lol

I thought they used the fourth gill arch to communicate with fish from outer space.

The only filter feeder is the African aro, that is what makes the youngsters hard to raise

I also read this, and I do beleive (mine was a different article) and it said african tehy never said anything about any other aro's...Found this very interesting my self!

Afros are filter feeders when young.

wow, guess im late with the info...LOL
