Interesting Fish Suggestions for 10-30 Gallons!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One way to really make any tank, not just a small one, looking very special is to add fish that school tightly.

From all the tight schooling fish suitable for a 10 to 30 gal. tank the following are the best:

- Ember tetra
- Boraras urophtalmoides
- Dwarf Indian ring loaches

The above fish are small and will create the optical illusion that the tank is much bigger than it is.

Also, for a different, more "rivery" look you can get some of the gobies that are fairly new to the US hobby - Rhinogobius wui, Black Velvet Sulawesi Goby, or any other Rhinogobius. These fish are real pets - they interact with you more than most other small sized fish. Also they lay eggs on a regular basis, which (combined with them being new to the US hobby) may make you think about breeding and selling them.

You could go brackish and go with a couple green spotted puffers, just a suggestion.

apistos are nice, a pair can easily be housed in a 10g.
you can keep a colony of Lamprologus multifasciatus in a 10 gallon.

Planted Shrimp Tank would be cool.

I have been thinking about getting exodons since someone introduced them to me.

HM Bettas are also wonderful

Thank you for the great suggestions everyone!

So far some ideas I've got are:
A pair of Rams.
A pair of Apistos.
A group of pea puffers.
A group of green spotted puffers.
A swarm of bumblebee gobies.
A knight goby community.
A crayfish.
An aquascaped tank with shrimp and a school of ember tetras or Boraras urophtalmoides.
Rhinogobius species (Haven't seen any of those before in the shops though)
A colony of multies.
Or a small frogfish sp. in a simple reef.

Woah, lots to choose from already! You can't have to many fish, right? :D

jawfish
gobies
basslets
cardinals
so on
i just figured since everyone was giving fw ideas i might as well give some sw ideas
