I remember seeing this a couple years ago and thought it was interesting, however I must say after what feels like a billion and one filter changes, sometimes for no other reason then I was board I am not a fan of PVC overflows. PVC over flows have less likely hood if built right of getting air lock lock some cheap hob overflows, but they also have a much larger foot print and lower flow rate. IMHO if you have money go with a good HOB over flow and get a venturi pump to make sure it stays primed. If you check it each week then your chances of a failure are slim. I say slim because if you buy a good one it would take more then a week for it to air lock if the venturi failed. However Drilled is always better.
