For those into fishy paleontology or genetics, here's a recent article with a lot of good information on cichlid proliferation and genomic divergence over the ages.

 
3 specie in India, Etroplus maculatus (the orange chromide), Etroplus canarensus, and Etroplus suratensus (sometimes called the green chromide).
I have kept two, surantensus and canarensus, they seem to be closely aligned with the Paraetroplus of Madagascar.
The Etroplines, and Paretroplines have a separate type hearing apparatus than all other cichlid.

The suratensus are one of my favorites that get as large as a dinner plate, and are heavily vegetarian.
