I pretty much think this applies to fish as well, of course with the difference’s being water quality and that most people don’t keep fish by themselves. As far people worrying about whether a single fish is happy with a certain amount of space, I think this applies
Opinions?

These debates will go on forever. I'm not too sure whether it's a good thing or not using a creatures brain development as a yard stick on whether a certain size enclosure is good or bad. It seems to me that us clever humans are making excuses to justify our motives for keeping animals in boxes! At the end of the day the definitive answer would come from the animals themselves...but they can't talk, so we talk for them, typical!

Our poor fish really have a bum deal because they have a two pronged attack going on. Enclosure (tank) size, is always a hot potato, but as if that isn't bad enough they also have water quality too!! Two huge issues within our hobby and if we don't get them BOTH right we are doing a severe injustice to our fish.

This guy seems to know his skinks pretty well, and he goes into great detail about the intricate parts of the skinks brain. The skink hobbyist community have probably let out a huge collective sigh of relief knowing that their small enclosures are just fine!!

It would be nice if a similar guy, only this time well versed in all things regarding fish brains did a similar video to put all our minds at rest too!

Although these types of conversation will go on forever within the various animal keeping hobbies, in my opinion we will never get a definitive slam dunk answer until the day our animals can talk to us and air their own concerns regarding the way we keep them.

Evolution needs to pull it's finger out!

I actually found this video while researching what experts keep their BTS in. I could be wrong but I’m guessing that if a reptile doesn’t have the part of the brain that will cause them to be happy or not due to cage size, I doubt a fish does. I would also like to see a similar study done on fish. It would have to be a pretty extensive study since some fish don’t move and others are far more active than the most active reptile.
My 16” adult tanny BTS is in a 75 and that seems like overkill and I have a 18” female jeweled lacerta in a 40b and that seems perfect when I watch both. I imagine if these were any type of fish, they would appear very cramped in these cage sizes and I would probably rip someone for keeping similar sized fish in these tank sizes. 🤷‍♂️
