I have 2 fx5s on a 180 gallon but they dont polish the water very well. I know i can put fine filter pads in the bottom tray but its a pain to open the filter up so often.

I would prefer to put a good internel filter in the tank that i can easily clean often.

What would be the best choice, uv or spnoge, wool filtration? What brand, model does the best job?

The only internal filter that i think is aethstetically nice are undergravel filters and those are only good if you gravel vacuum plus that on a 180 probably wouldn't work

just run an HOB with "quilt batting", thats what i do. i have two ac110 primarily for mech filtration, with some bio, but my two eheim pro II canisters are pretty much all bio
