About a month ago i added an oscar and 2 clown loaches to my tank. After about 5 days my oscar stared being very shy, not eating and doing white stringy poos. My LFS sold me Wardleys Promethyasul which is said to be a broad spectrum treatment for bacterical, fungal and parasitic diseases.... Ingredients inculde
Mafenide hyrochloride 24.2mg/ml
Aminacrine hydrochloride 3.3mg/ml
Malachite green 0.4mg/ml

because of loaches in the tankI used a 1/2 dose to begin with then another 1/4 dose a few hours later. Loaches were fine but the oscar died with in 24 hours. After adding the meds he seemed to perk a little but was dead the next day.

Today after adding a new Clown Loach and Ghost knife to my tank a loach that i haddent seen in a week came out of hiding, i thought he had "dissapeared " Anyway he looked fat, was breathing heavy, not interested in food or hanging with other loaches....This was about 2 or 3 hours ago. As i wright this his breathing is getting heavier and is swimming in out of control circles... Im sure he will be dead before i finish this post which leads me to my main question here....

Should i assume the CL died from the same diseaes as the oscar? other fish all fine (sysnpilum, silver dollar and clown loach) Should i treat my tank again with with the meds i mentioned before? will the be safe for my new Black Ghost Knife

Loaches are sensitive to meds and may have died from that. That is more likely of a situation.

I would suggest qt the fish and monitor prior to adding to ur main tank.

I would also suggest to check ur water parameters as the meds can kill ur BB and that can result in fish dying.

Thanks for the reply, forgot to add, ammonia and nitrite are 0 nitrate is 20.

I understand CL are sensitive to med that why half dose was used and and additional quarter dose was added 24 hours later. A trusted member of a LFS recommended the meds knowing i had loaches and sugested i start by adding a 3/4 dose i started with half dose to be safe.

Also meds were added about 3 weeks ago and i have performed atleast 2 50% water changes since then so i find it hard to believe that the meds may have killed the loach today and not 3 weeks ago when i added the meds, other loach has been fine the whole time.

Anyway i am no expert, just dont wanna loose anymore fish

Ok...thanks for the info.

Even at half dose meds/salt can kill a loach. Same for bgk. Will not be able to tell what caused it. I'm assuming the Oscar had hexemita and it isn't too contagious. So I assume if not the parasite then has to be the medication.

But still would advise to qt. This will help to prevent any problems.

As long as the other fish are acting normal and no signs of infection. Then no need to treat again.
