Hey guys,

I am thinking i have an internal parasite problem in one of my discus. He is about 5'', water temps are always around 85, nitrates 0, nitrites 0, ammonia 0, ph 6.6, strong filtration, wc's daily at a min of 50%, lots of other kinds of fish in the tank. White feces, doesn't look slimy just one single strand. Hasn't really eaten that i can see in the last couple days. Abdomen looks normal, could be slightly bloated, but looks ok. No popeye, no discoloration, fins aren't clamped, slight hiding, no balance issues. Thinking about doing a metro treatment without large water changes. I have done several metro treatements in the past every time with WCs but when i read this article on simplydiscus.com, i noticed they say with internal parasites and bacteria you want to limit the amount of WCs because it will actually make the problem worse. I don't if this is truth, but i know metro is a good overall parasite supplement and i have some handy.
What does everyone think?

I think all that water changes during treatment are going to do is dilute the medication, which you can compensate for by re-administering.

I think you should treat him in a separate tank if that's possible.

I haven't used metronidazole, but I've heard fairly good things about it so long as its used on parasites susceptible to it. Metro won't work on all internal parasites.
I've had good results treating internal parasites using a levamisole hydrochloride and praziquantel wormer for caged exotic birds, by feeding medicated bloodworms and giving infested fish 15-30 minute dips in separate containers of medicated tank water.
