I just picked up a tank for $25, a 50cm cube. Holds 125 litres or around 27 gallons I think. It was just the tank so I have a clean slate for working out how to filter it. I'm going planted so I won't need much current. Low tech. Open top and I found the sweetest piece of driftwood that will fill the tank and emerge out of the top.
I was going to go canister, but then I thought after watching heaps of joeys videos, I might have a try at this diy stuff. So I think I'm gong to make an internal sump on the back wall from black acrylic. Paint the back black too. This way every thing is hidden, I can hide the heater in there and you won't be able to see the cords. I think it will look pretty clean.
What do I use to paint the back?
Thoughts? Thanks!

I"ve never painted one myself. Egon has, look for his posts, I know I read a post of his where he talked about painting tanks. About 2-3 years ago. It's still on here somewhere.

I painted mine with flat black spray paint. If I was to do it again, I would use a roller and some acrylic craft paint. It's easier to peel off if you got bored and wanted to change colors, no over-spray, and easier to apply.
