Anyone ever brought fish with them when traveling into the US from

I checked Customs Border Patrol and Fish and Wildlife Websites and
they don't give a clear explanation of what's involved if you bring in
fish while traveling as a personal non commercial item.
As far as I could tell you just have to have paperwork for entry to
give to a Fish and Wildlife Inspector for examination. If you enter
into a port city such as LA then there should be inspectors on duty,
is it a big deal?
