speedtest.net

(only gives you an accurate reading if your computer plays flash stuff well, if not it'll give you a slower speed then you really get)

lmao, 61 Mbps. I get 6.89 Mbps UL and that is a decent speed in the UK. That just proves how cheap the isp's are when it comes to upgrading their networks.
Companies like BT, Virgin, etc should look at differences in speeds like this and be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. If I owned/ran an isp and saw this I would be embarassed to tell people what I made my living from.

I have been having trouble with MFK as well. I ran the speed test to confirm and I am getting horrible results. In the past, I have noticed when it rains, my connection is a lot weaker. Well, it's raining. 1.87 download, 0.5 upload. I assume a wireless laptop isn't helping...but either way, that's pathetic (especially for what I am paying).

are you using your own wireless radio? or the one provided by the ISP?
Isp modem / wifi units are very poor in most cases.

Even on my highend wifi router, 1ft away from my brand new sony laptop gets about 1/2 the speed as my wired desktop using my OEM 10/100

I did buy my own router/modem, but it's about a year old. I am only around 5' away from it. Things are better since I recently redid my internal phone lines. I used to have a ton of trouble keeping my PS3 connected...but since then, I don't have a ton of trouble. I do have the PS3 and all the desk tops connected through ethernet.

Seriously though, when it rains, it does slow down. I heard rumors from guys at work that there are several places in the main phone line conduits that they have huge water traps. Omaha is a fairly big city, close to 800,000...but, we're in the middle of nowhere. We sort of get the best of both worlds...lots of amenities, yet mostly a rural setting. But, there's a lot of downfalls too.
