Hello,

Due to an unexpected algie bloom in my goldfish tank, I treated the tank at the weekend, but I wam just curious how long it could take to clear the water? I have never had this problem before. Than tank is 24" long, 12" wide and 15" high containing 2 6" goldfish. I have an fluval internal 3 but not live plants as the tank gets cold in the winter.

Thank you in advance.

Two 6" goldfish is a lot of bio load for a tank that size, you will likely have the same problem (or more) unless you upgrade to a bigger tank soon.

I started my fish hobby with 2 fancy comets in a 5 gallon tank for 2 years... I had just a regular whisper filter on the back.. never had algae issues. I did however do 100% water changes every other week. (IMO, anything but tropical goldfish need to be in a pond).

3.5 years later, they are in a pond and are about 9"+.

It could be that you are over feeding and the filter isn't up to par. Do you have the tank in front of a window? Does it get any direct light at any point during the day?

Have you had any flooding in your area? The reason I ask is because many water companies will add extra chemicals to the water if there has been flooding.

This has happened here this year. My 600 gallon QT tank outside for koi was crystal clear last year, and this year you can't even see the fish!

How often do you feed?

The tank really is a bit too small for them, and therefore there is not as much water as should be for the amount of waste produced.

Why can't you?

What's the temp of the tank?
