I know I have soft water, but what exactly is the gH and kH? Always wanted to know this :)
sorry about pic size, wanted to fit everything in one pic. if you click on it and then click on it again once it loads it zooms :D

what i really don't understand is how alkalinity(mg/L CaCO3) is 12.9 and Hardness(mg/L CaCO3) is 19 when they both have mg/L CaCO3 next to them

Did you realize that your drinking water has sewage, animal waste, and lead in it?

He does live in NYC :nilly:

alkalinity is a measure of the water's ability to resist changes in pH (to buffer)

hardness is the amount of dissolved minerals ( measured as calcium and magnesium carbonates) present in the water.

both use the units of calcium carbonate in mg/L but the values are different because they are a measure of different things and the relationship between them is not 1 to 1 (ie 1 mg/L alkalinity does not necessarily mean 1 mg/L carbonate hardness)

hope this helps.

Among other equally nasty things.
Most people would be amazed what is actually in their water supply.
The scary part is bottled water is not neccessarily any better.

I'm just playing with the fear factor. All drinking water has sewage in it to some degree (a fact that you can't escape from). If you really think about it, at some point in time it was also dinosaur pee.

geez guys i'm trying to get off the habit of drinking bottled lol

though i am starting to like tap more just because water comes out cold :P

have faith in north american tap water standards.

at least here in Ontario, tap water is subject to strict regulations, just as treated sewage effluents are.

the bottled water industry has none and the bacterial counts in bottle water that has been opened and left to sit and then drank are sky high compared to sitting tap water because tap water has a free chlorine residual (or chloramines).

of course, I work in the industry so I am biased :)
