Amongst the Catfish & Plecos
I have a fish with intestinal prolapse. I am not sure why it happened. I have changed diets, but very gradually and there has been no signs of internal parasites. All I can think is that he ate more than his fair share and is now really paying for it. I've heard epsom salts, internal parasite medication, hold off on feeding, dab ointment on it, etc. as well as combinations of it all.

Who has had a fish with this problem, what did you do, and what was the outcome?

I had a female that would do this. I just added epsom salt and kept the temps up. She always pulled through. Well, until she messed with the wrong fish.

I'm hoping it goes this way.... except that he minds his own business and doesn't piss anyone off.

my Oscar did this a few times . . . it always went back in after a day or two . . .

Well, I'm very happy it went back in. I haven't fed. I thought I'd give it another day... Hopeful they don't play a disgusting game of peek-a-boo every time that poor guy eats...

yeah just cut back on the food for a few days, add some salt and raise the temp, should retract and all should be normal in a few days. Piggy fish have this happen on occasion.

And here I thought gaining a little weight from over eating was a bad consequence....:WHOA:;)
