Hi,

Prior to acquiring 2 new motoro's i have a 7" Motor in my 220 gallon. 1 of 2 new ones was labelled orange motoro and the other one was blue/orange motoro's.

They are very beautiful and have strong large orange dots. They are both approximatly 13" I have attached 2 pictures, they arnt the best pics because they are under a dim blue light and i took the pics with my iphone4

I dont know what they were eating but the seller told me they were eating frozen brine shrimp. Being so big i dont know how they would still be eating that.

2 questions:

1. Are they really blue/orange motoro's. If not, what kind do they look like?

2. I dont want my 7" motoro to not be left out during feeding time. The 2 new guys dont seem to be aggressive towards him at this time, they seem to be getting along just fine. I'm feeding my 7" earthworms which he really enjoys.

Given these guys are 13" what is the best thing i can start them on besides earthworm (since they are so expensive)

I have the following available:
blood worms, frozen shrimp, massivours, arrow sticks, earthworms

IMO Motoro are Motoro - fancy names are just there to jack up prices, the slight color variations might've originally been related to collection locale.

Anything they'll eat from your list should be fine, although bloodworm won't be a very big meal for any ray. Shrimp, massivore, smelt, tilapia etc. should all work out significantly cheaper than worms.

Are these the $89 Big Als ones?

13" disk diameter? or head to tail?

$89 motoro? That sounds so cheap... :WHOA:
Even the smallest motoros start at $200 around here and go up from there.

Nice looking rays btw good luck with them. Try firemedic's DIY food as all my rays love it!

Feed them Tilapia. Can get from Walmart or any store in frozen bags and will be cheap. Frozen shrimp (raw) also work well. Silversides from your pet store are good, but can get expensive. So mix it up. Also add in some earthworms from time to time. It doesnt have to be just one type of food put in that night, I sometimes add in tilapia, worms and then the next day do tilapia nad silversides, maybe just a day of one or the other.. Mine are getting big enough though, just worms wont work...
Ghost shrimp are ok, but are more of a snack and not a good food source as there are not alot of vitamims and wont be good for growth. But are good as a day time snack for the rays to chase and play with before eating. Thats what I do with my ghost shrimp when I give them to my rays. It can get expensive, so I breed my shrimp and have not had to buy any for over a year now, but that takes awhile to get to that point. But like I said, thats more of a fun snack and not a good food source.
hope all this helps

Hi this is my first responce on here so here goes.
I would leave out the bloodworm not enough nutrients for your size rays. Try feeding frozen prawn, mussels, lance fish, massivore pellets and earthworms as this works for me. If you find one of your rays is being left out feed it by forceps NOT your fingers.
