Hi, My name is Lotus and I live near Bakersfield CA and in the last year I have been afflicted with aquarium fever. As a kid my Grandpa had TONS of indoor/outdoor tanks/ponds with all kinds of exotic/local fish so I guess it is in the blood.
We started off with a carnival goldfish that recently passed away after two years. We did not like him being in souch a small aquarium so we picked up a 30 gallon hex setup and added a few more goldfish to the mix.
Then we picked up a 55 gallon setup and I learned the hard way about cycling/water care. I should work for the water district now! Right now in the 55 gallon are 5 african cichlids, 5 tiger barbs, and 3 clown loach. They all get along great and with the africans and clown loach so far my PH runs 7.5-7.6 area without change so I think I should be ok with those two as 7.5-7.6 is on the high end for ph for the clown and low end for the cichlids. But I have read stable PH is more important. We will see. If I have to move the loach i will.
I do weekly 15-20% water changes and I feed my fish a combo of flake/cichlid pellets and sinking pellets and a treat of spirula (spelling error) shrimp cube things that they go nuts for.
I recently picked up a 135 gallon tanks and all the fish from the 55 gallon will be moved over and then the goldfish will take over the 55 gallon tank.
Other than that...I work a lot and spend a lot of time with my family and pets. If you are still reading this I am sorry for babbling on for so long!
