Hello, I have been keeping fish for 2 years. I started off with an 18 gallon coldwater tank and I now have 6 tanks, 3 of them planted. The largest tank I have is 50 gallon while the smallest is 6 gallons. I tend to keep small fish eg Celebes and Threadfin rainbow fish, Dwarf chain loach, various tetras, Ottos, SAE's etc.

I have been trying to capture my fish and tanks for a while now. I managed to get some reasonable point and shoot pictures of my tanks with an Olympus camedia master 3MP. I managed this by resting the camera on the back of a chair to minimise camera shake. Although the camera supposedly had a macro mode I could never get any sort of results with shooting the actual fish.

I have finally bitten the bullet and bought a DSLR. I have a Canon 400D and have only had it for a couple of weeks but I am over the moon with it. I have a lot to learn with the actual camera and even more so with learning the computer side. I feel that I am getting there slowly but surely. I have taken photos I am actually pleased with and hope to learn a lot more from this site.

I have posted pictures on another site and I assume I do it in the same way here. I reduce the picture to messageboard size on photobucket and then copy and paste onto my post. Is this right?

Thanks,

Karen.

Karen, welcome to APF. I suggest using some type of software to resize your images to around 640 pixels wide at home, and then hosting them online, photobucket, OR right here on APF. WE have a gallery software that does hosting and it's Free (unless you need to host a lot, then it's very competitively priced).

Paradise, thanks for the reply. Just one more question. I have posted a picture of one of my tanks in my Photo section and it has popped up huge. I uploaded it from My Pictures, How can I make it a smaller size physicaly, I have already reduced its pixel size to 800 by 600 (I think?) Sorry to ask basic questions but I am learning it all bit by bit and am a little bit in the dark.

Thanks,

Karen.

Karen, what software are you using? Make it 640x480 instead and it will be the right size. 800x600 is pretty big for smaller monitors.

Welcome to APF, Karen. We have quite a few members in the UK now. I hope we can help you to enjoy your fishkeeping and your photography.
