I have a 2 & a half inch baby pacu in my grow tank (3 inch nose to end of tail) that im thinking about switching over to the bigger tank (a 60 gallon breeder). my only issue that i have is my 6 1/2 inch peacock bass im afraid might eat him. i have only seen the peacock eat feeders & he lives fine with my polleni and my texas cichlid (same size maybe slightly bigger, as pacu length wize but a lot more girth than the pacu). i also have an approx. 7 inch Red Tail Catfish in there, which i know will eat anything they can. and last but not least AN approx. 9 inch long 3 inch tall clown knife which is also predatory. now im aware that all those fish will eat anything that they can fit but pacus are fairly tall in comparison to theyre length. so in order for these fish to succesfully swallow my lil guy is theyde have to take him in sideways. (which might not be a problem for the rtc?) i dunno you tells me! im fairly new to the hobby and not to experienced so i need another opinion. and if its too soon to introduce him then when would be good? hes in a 10 gal. grow tank at the moment with 3 other fish. all opinions are appreciated. P.S. I KNOW IM GONNA NEED A BIGGER TANK LATER, I ALREADY HAVE PLANS ON UPGRADING EVENTUALLY!

i think the plan needs to be upgrade NOW and everything else will fall into place. welcome to the site and i think you will find a lot of information here that will be very helpful but be warned this is a site with people dedicated to overdoing it to care for their fish, and as of right now you have a long way to go.

I agree theres even a person with a signature that says something like "if you underkill something, it tends to kill u back." its something like that.

and your peacock bass wont eat ur pacu.

well thx 4 the warm welcome. anywayz i would have got em a huge tank a long time ago but i need ta get my money right. so what im workin with now will have to do temporarily. so all or nothin are you suggesting to go ahead and throw him in or is it more along the line of "ur peacock is ok........its the other two you have to worry about"! im thinkin the clown knife should be ok my main concerns are the p bass and the RTC. i know i COULD just play it safe and leave him in the 10 for a few more weeks or months (depending on growth rate) but id rather see him grow happy in a bigger tank if possible. im not worried about the cichlids with him juss the p bass (cuz hes so big) and the rtc (cuz the size of his mouth). and the reason i say the clown knife is cuz ive had baby fish come up missing when i had him b4 the p bass and RTC were around. oh and if i do keep him in the 10 do you have any tips on increasing the growth rate?

to many for a small tank? i plan on upgrading the tank for my 2 p bass, pacu, clown knife, and rtc and leaving the bichirs with the cichlids in the 60. so thats what i should do, leave him in the 10 as long as i can? but if i do that will it stunt his growth?

you don't want to stunt the pacu, keep up with water changes and such until the fish can be moved into the larger tank. but you asked about an increased growth rate and you don't want that.
your options right now are upgrade soon or rehome the fish because you have alot of fish that get very large very quick, and by upgrade with those fish your looking at 500gal and that isn't permanent

damn thats crazy cuz i was talking to dude at my lfs about buying his display 675 gallon and told him i wanted 3 p bass a pacu my rtc and POSSIBLY a dorado and he said that would be plenty big enough. so if i buy a permanent tank for them and put it in my garage or sumthin would a 1000 be enough?
