I have a 55 with a 4.5 inch GT and some dithers.. also a very small firemouth... I also have a nice male convict in another tank, that would look great in my 55g... I know I will eventually need a bigger tank for the GT, but he is friendly now...

Now the convict... this is perhaps the coolest con on the block... he is in a 20 gallon tank with a female and neon tetras... yea you read that right... I took them from another tank and did not have anywhere to put them... threw them in with him... they are fine.. even during breeding time, he only darts at them once and a while...

So, my question is, do you think he would keep this laid back attitude if I took him away from the female and added him to the 55g? I am not worried about the GT doing anything more than chasing occasionally, I am worried about the convict picking on the GT or firemouth...

thoughts on this??

Give it a try if it doesn't work out put him back in his 20, i have convicts with my GT's and firemouth, so i say there shouldn't be a problem. the firemouth will flare his gills if he feels intimidated this will usually stop the Con attacking. and if the GT is larger than the con i would say there shouldnt be an issue, even when breeding my cons know not to push my GT too far and vice versa. i think he'll be okay, just be prepared to move him out if things change.

yeah with something like this just experiment. put him in and watch the fish for about 15 minutes, if all is fine then just check back on them every hour or so. and if all is good then just leave it. just be ready to act if hes beating up one of the other fish.

thanks... I will give it a try... I am more worried about the firemouth not fitting in...

I might end up removing the FM instead of the con if things dont work out.... gonna try it this evening and watch things.. thanks again
