i have just brought my beloved king kong parrot from another tank into my established 40 gallon (for now) cichlid tank where my 4" gold severum is the unchallenged and benevolent king. the severum has always been very peaceful with his tank mates, until now. he has been fairly constantly and aggressively chasing adrian brody (the parrot) since i introduced him to the tank 6 hours ago. should i be worried that he could do real harm to my parrot, or should i give more time for this territorial dispute to settle down.?

take him out, that tank is to small for a sev AND a KKP. both have the advantage of growing to be 10+ inches. unless thats a grow out tank id think about getting a bigger tank ASAP if you dont ahve one.. min tank size for a sev is a 55 ( even tho a 75 would be better ) and for a KKP a 75 would do good for him.

thank you... it is a grow out tank for a short while as they are both very young. new to fishkeeping, i already have 4 tanks and am avidly looking for a couple very large tanks to house my much-loved collection. the aggression seems to have subsided substantially overnight...

Agree with livebearerfreak.. Too small for those guys.

They should get along fine given some room. I keep BPs with severums in my larger tank. Anytime I introduce a new fish they all sort of harass the fish for a day but then they all stop.

In my tank it's like the introductory hazing before they accept the new fish as one of them. :P

yes, i will take wise advice and move adrian until i can get a MUCH larger tank. very soon i hope. that will bring me up to 5 tanks since i began this new passion just 5 short months ago. certainly not the cheapest or simplest hobby i could have chosen, i realize now. enjoying it immensely and totally worth it, though - thanks for your help.

I agree!

Over the past year my hubby and I went from 1 55gal tank to now having 85gal, 150 gal, 10 gal and 2 empty 55's we hope to fill soon!

It's addicting and slightly pricey but I find it very rewarding!
