once i get the 300 gal up and running and stocked how hard is it to introduce a new pike (a possible mate perhaps) to the marmorata i plan on getting i ask because of the cost of the fish at nearly 100 dollars a fish (i know they can be had cheaper but there is also shipping and what not) buying a group of 4-6 and hoping for a pair is a pricey option so once i had one raised it to a certain size and sexed it is it possible to find one of the opposite sex without them killing each other or is the same ol crap shoot

I'm gonna say crap shoot.

kind of what i thought i would really like to keep two of the marmoratas but dont want to end up with two males maybe i can find some old enough to sex and add them at the same time why are all the good fish so damn expensive man i need a second job or simpler taste in fish im sure you guys know that feeling thanx for your responses

dividers always work! well not really but they do sometimes!:screwy:

Not with pikes....haha. Crenicichla can take conspecifics aggression to a new level of frustrating. Introducing two adult pikes to a tank after one of the pikes has already been established is askin for a beating. Even in a tank of that size there is gonna be aggression when the pike is first introduced for sure..whether or not it will stop is up to the pikes. You could get away with gettin three younger pikes, as it will be cheaper than gettin 4 to 5. That really is your best bet though. Pikes don't like being forced to pair up, they openly make that clear. It works some times, but most of the time you will have to seperate them. Be patient, there will be more pikes in a couple of weeks when you get your tank cycled. I would add the pikes last anyway....they can definately hold their own...;)

oh ive got time i still have probably 1-2 weeks of pollishing the tank then build the stand gonna get all the small fish (giant danios probably) goin then the silver dollars a few weeks later so im in no hurry just tryin to figure the cichlids out before my wife finds out what im up to money wise thanx guys

go for it, will u have wood, rocks, or plants in your tank and what type of substrate: gravel or sand, give em hiding spots and let the fun begin!!! :headbang2   :screwy: :WHOA:

plenty of driftwood with a gravel substrate and some cave made of larger rocks and slate but im not gonna risk these fish or this money to find out ill just suck it up and buy multiples unless i can find some someone already keep together for sale
