I have a 10-11 in Red Oscar with 6/ 5-6 in Red Hook Silver Dollars and 1 13 in Albino Sailfin in a 175g 6x24x30. They have been together for approximatey 1.5 years, the nitrates never pass 20 ppm with two fin level water changes per week. Filtration consists of two Eheim canisters, a 2250 and 2262, and more water changes wouldn't be a problem.

I would like to pick up one more Oscar to fill out the tank, the Red Hooks seem to hoover around in a group with the Oscar staying im his corner for the most part. I know this would be a gamble as to whether they get along or not, my main question is what size of Oscar would be the best bet, larger or smaller ?

My apologies, i forgot to add it's a bow front, 24'' in the center tapering back to 18'' at the ends.

Crap shoot man. Sometimes it works, Sometimes it doesn't.Oscars are funny. I had good luck adding a 8inch Oscar in with a 10-12 inch Oscar. They got along just fine, still do. But I've had friends do the same thing. And end up losing a fish to stress from aggression.

I think with that tank you'd be OK. Just get one close to his size. And give it a whirl. This may not be a very popular opinion. With all the recent commotion about fish size vs tank size.

But it sounds like it's something you want to do. So I say go ahead try it. Have some light defuser ready for a divider. And if things get to rough you'll have to get rid of one of the Oscars.

Good luck man.

+1 good advice.
A gamble that may or may not work.
Just have a divider at hand just in case.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm on the hunt for a similar sized Tiger or Red Oscar and may double down on the crap shoot by throwing in a Leporinus Fasciatus.
