Hello MFK,
I am considering adding "Golden Sand" as substrate in this 30gal fresh water tank which is home to 3 Gold Fish (Ranchus), 3 Pearl Gouramis and 5 Silver Dollars. (I don't want to go for a planted aquarium, so the sand is purely for decor.)
I removed the assorted pebble substrate a few weeks ago because the waste from the fish entered the gaps between the pebbles and affected the water quality.
The tank is currently without any substrate and with some rock decor and the filters+heater etc.
What is the correct procedure to introduce "Golden Sand" to an established tank? Do I have to cycle it again? The filter(s) and the rock decor (which is real rock BTW) are going to be the same.
I have thoroughly washed the sand and removed any floating debris and continued washing it till the water no longer turns dirty/milky. I would prefer that I don't have to remove the fish out of the tank while adding the sand, but I don't know if it'll be OK to do so.
Regards,
Sid
