Hello guys and gals,
I have about 13-14 juvenile mixed mbuna (2 red zebras, 2 saulosi's, 1 mel. auratus albino, yellow labs, a few hongi's etc you can look at my pics to see the babies) that i have been growing out for about 3-4 months now ( in a 47 gallon tank) and im wondering if they are big enough to introduce to the flock of about 30 mixed mbuna that are in my 180 gallon tank. The babies are 2.5-3 inches (some bigger than others) and the grown ones in the 180 are mostly full grown from 2.5-5 or 6 inches in length).
How long do ppl normally wait to introduce juveniles to a school of grown mixed mbuna? and should i put all of them in at once (and confuse them all by doing something like cleaning the tank so that the old ones dont automatically pick on the smaller ones) or just about half--wait a few days and then put the other half in? ive never introduced a group of fish to an established tank of slightly bigger fish...ive searched this forum and found very little on introducing juvenile mbuna to an established tank.
i would rearrange the rock, but if you look at my pics of the 180, i have river boulder, and they are in a set position and im afraid to move them. im thinking the best way is to introduce 1/2 of them--at the same time im cleaning the tank.. then a few days later put the smaller ones of the juvies in..just not sure...
anyhoo-id like the least amount of casualties as possible lol.. thanks for your input everyone--ive only had malawi mbunas for about 4 years.. so im still a newbie with them.
Thanks everyone!
