I picked up a blood parrot cichlid the other day from my LFS, he/she was only $2.50!
If someone could tell me if this a male of female i'd really appreciate it.

-Although im leaning towards male(?)

Do the pics do the justice? I'll try and get some better ones if requested.

The only way to know for sure is to vent them. Nice parrot...might fade into something nice. I haven't taken any updated pics of mine but he has gaded from what your looked like to almost completed orange with a little black left on his pectoral fin. Congrats on the great price and good pickup.

thanks!
Hopeufully his colors will come out more, the more he grows..

Given enough space they grow at a moderate pace though I have never really kept track of the growth rate on a monthly progression. I got my first three back in September 10 and they were 1.5", 1.0", and 1.0". They are now 4.5", 4.0", 4.0". I have a total of six now spread out throughout my tanks and the growth has been about the same. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your input!
- Seems as if they grow at a regular rate as of any other cichlid would.
Also depending on what you feed them/how much/and how many times a day.
