I was lucky enough to get a hold of about 15 Thorichthy helleri off Andy Young… Their parents were caught by Rusty Wessel… they're only 3 weeks old and still very small. So any advise on these would be much appreciated… heard they're sensitive to nitrates in the water - so lots of little water changes will be required and low feeding.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. I would add a sand substrate. Also keep the ph 7-8 ph and temp around 78 f. They really shouldn't be any real different than firemouths since they are typically found together in certain locations. T. Pasionis is found w/ helleri and meeki too.

Thanks for that great advise… I noticed last night some of the fry resting on the bottom… did a quick test and everything seemed fine with the water quality apart from the pH being only 6.5… they where raised in 8.2 - so I did a little water change and added a fine layer of coral sand as sub straight.

You will notice a better change in them in them with the PH change. They just have to adjust to that change, but it shouldn't take that long. That is the best substrate combo for CA cichlids IMO. I use it in my tanks, and I have a consistent 7.6 PH, but my crush coral is older. My tap water is about 6.5-7.0 PH. Keep us posted on their growth, because they are absolutely beautiful as adults :)

Definitely will do… I have these 15 fry in 10 gallons with a sponge filter. Incidentally, Andy also has some Thorichthys Calloleptis… are these quite rare? They're a bit more elongated than most Thorichthys species.

That's perfect. Yes calloleptis are very rare. They are the only thorichthys sp. that doesn't have the eye spot on the gill plate. Very colorful too. I would get those too if I were you.
