Hey MFK guys and gals! i have this 2 year old 13inch female motoro hybrid stingray.I was wondering is it possible to add a 5/6 inch male to her pond??and will they fight and kill each other? because she seriusly looks bored and lonely!
It can be done but the little male can get beat up a little with the fight for food each day and such, No real exact all knowing answer to your question just different experiences from everyone. When I put a small male into my tank last he was a good bit aggressive and ended up stabbing my female even though she would just try to get food from anywhere it fell. I would say the male is a little on the small size, But depending on her and him its possible.
Key will be to make sure the male gets enough to eat. With the size difference, the female is likely to get all the food. Feeding in a pond it will be tough to see how much he is eating. Key will be to cut up the food (if feeding shrimp / smelts) onto smaller pieces and dump it all in at once so he can get some of the pieces. Keep in mind the smaller the pieces the more the female will suck up and chew on later leaving little for the male. O've noticed that with my rays. They will suck up as much as possible and then sit off in the corner chewing it up as fast as they can before the other rays notice it still has food.
