I've have 4 6inch RBP's that I'm putting in my 180 gallon tank. I plan on getting 8 more dime sized RBP's once i get the tank established. Do you think everyone will be ok? Should i buy 12 new RBP's just in case a few get eaten up?

if you plan to add those dim size rbps to your established 6" shoal then you should scratch that idea out right now. better off grow those dim size ones to similar size than add them, other wise they'll just be snacks of the bigger ones. if you will have only one tank then divide the tank and grow the smaller one out then remove the divider. if you want you can always buy few extra then sell off the ones you don't want if they all lived to tell the tale.
typical suggestion for pygo (excluding pirayas) is minimum 20 gallon per fish so if you want them to be comfortable you should have no more than 9 in there. you already have 4, that gives you 5 more.
personally I have yet to loose any reds during my pygo keeping days due to cannibalism (knock on wood) but most ppl will tell you to get few more.

Put the dime-sized ones in a growout tank and let them get closer to the size of your others. The small ones IMO will never survive. If you have somewhat equal sized fish and want to introduce them you'd do this.

Take all fish out, do a 40%-50% water change, change the decor around and put all fish in at the same time.

that works, but this have worked for me in the pass and less work:
stick a net or something in the tank, scared the crap out of your old shoal, add the new shoal then scared the crap out of them all together. once they all settle down they'll be like best buddies...of course in the world of piranhas, there's no real buddies.

Yeah, I think the main thing is to induce stress. I try to stress mine as little as I can. I'm lucky in that mine are pretty adaptable to anything. I put my last 3 Reds in without doing anything and they immediately got along. I put my Sanchezi in and they've accepted him as well even though he's considerably smaller than they are.

im doing this now i have 3 7-9in piranhas ina 125 gallon i have divided the tank in 1/2 and have 5 babies on the other side...i got all the supplies for about 5-6 bucks at the craft store (Michael's)

ill try to get some pics for you

but if u just put them in they all will get eaten

I had no problem with 2x 5" and 2x 2" the 5 inchers were established, and I was ready to take the small ones out right away....Nothing happened, the smaller ones are almost caught up, and they get along just fine in a 75. That is just me though.

I would wait till they get bigger before trying to introduce them.6 inch and dime size is a big difference.

I dont know much about pirahnas but from what i heard is you cant add new ones to a existing tank.
