Hey guys, I wanted to see how everyone introduces their red hi fin to new tank mates.
I usually net mine out right after the new addition is done acclimating, then get the new guy in there so he can settle down w/o being pestered and put the wolf back in after about 5-10 minutes. So far, using this technique, he hasn't nipped either the Rope fish, Gymno Balzani, or the Gold Dust bichir for more then the month they have been here. It seems to really, really help the almost untrained puppy-like reaction they usually display to new tank mates, so far have only lost one smaller Balzani to his curiosity before I started using this method.
The level of activity in the new mate plays a huge factor I've found. If the new fish is one to be swimming around a lot it will be a target. If its a relatively inactive fish (like Bichirs) it doesn't seem to garner the same reaction. Its kind of been a challenge to me to comm this wolf with fish they may or may not work with.
