i have a 4 inch oscar in a 55 gallon tank. i bought a dempsey about 2 inches big. i know i need a bigger tank so i will upgrade when they get to about 6 inch or so. i kept the dempsey in those breeding thing that you hang in the top. i tried to release him but the oscar would keep chasing him. how do i make this work?

Oscars are particular fish in terms of who is friend and who is food. And a friend today is food tomorrow. The oscar will grow faster than the JD and eventually it will end up as food if it not killed first.
Go buy a tank for the JD and buy him some buddies or a girlfriend.

Now that the oscar had the tank to himself for awhile he's not going to let another fish in it without trying to eat or destroy it.
