i have been reading posts on mfk for general advice, and now im not able to wait anymore.
2 weeks ago we decided to upgrade the 70 pond to a larger pond.

so last saturday i cleared an area that had gravel, noooice location, with a huge railroad tie wall to be the cornerpiece for the pond.

Well I started with my shovel. Then got the four wheeler, and a trailer....
:screwy: thats when it hit me. the neighbor has a large tractor:naughty:

needless to say that what was going to start out as a simple 9' dia circle maybe 13" deep has turned to a 16x9x3 minni pool :headbang2.

The questions lie here. After I Brick the border on top of the liner (will be covered with stones to look natural) I need to really get some bigger pumps and filterage. I Currently have a new but cheeser 1600 max cap. canister filter, and am running it in the 70 pond to get the bacteria going. But what should I be using for the main pump, and filter. Keep In mind that I have not laid the liner yet, and am still able to plumb a drain or two, and prepare for skimmer, and the 8' waterfall :naughty:. any experienced advice would be awsome!! thanks in advance.

a pair of reeflo dart pumps and a large stock tank full of bio media that waterfalls into the pond, with a skimmer and a bottom drain both feeding a 55 gallon sunken prefilter for mech filtration.

then just cut holes in the railroad ties for inlet and outlet pipes and sure you could put it behind the wall.

ahhh, Well today was not supposed to rain again, but i think ill be working in the rain today to get some progress on this pond ;)

Do you trust the wall to hold a full rubbermaid behind it?

It's a perfect idea, (just inspect the wall fully) The bin or bins behind the wall makes a awesome area for bio. material and Lettuce and Hyacinth if they are O.K. in your area.
They are also the start your waterfall. Your going to have to get some heavy duty pump(s) to get it up to the start. 8' of head and a pond that is roughly 3200 gals. needs burly pumps, but it will look sweet...

Skimmer. For sure. It hides the pump and catches a lot of debris brfore it gets a chance to settle on the bottom.

Since your neighbor has a back-hoe, why not go a little bigger? Have 2 skimmers running to to 2 bio. filters. One bin on either wall, maybe at different heights, dropping down. Use some fill in the corner to create different levels. I say all of this since it's not my budget...

how big is the full rubbermaid? Trashcan size? and lettuce? and haycinth? I love the idea, but please elaborate im all ears

Rubbermaods come in various sizes. See the sticky above.
