hey guys i just joined this forum. but have been checking it out for a while i have read alot of your ideas on how you have built your tanks.. i dont keep anything huge like most of you i have peacocks and malawi fish. my plans for this build are different than anything i have seen on here but will be built the same basic idea. i am building a setup for raising fry/ breeding, it will be 4 tanks in 1 it will be 4 foot tall and 2 feet front to back and 6 long. im building it as cheap as i can but still building it right. i am leaning to the pong liner because its the cheapest route and no one arond my place carries any marine epoxy. i looked into a bed liner for trucks it would work great however it doesnt stick to wood too well and would end up bubbling. my biggest concern with the pond liner is how long is it expected to last if it is done right? i know how i will build it so i can attach the glass to the pond liner without it leaking but i just dont know how long i can expect the liner to actua2lly hold without getting a hole or something. like i said it is for fry and breeding only so it wont have any sand or rocks or anything besides filter hanging off the back. i already have the woodwork done just waiting on my decision of how i will seal it all up so any help fairly soon would be much appriciated. thanks from the "new guy"

Most pond liners are guaranteed to last 20 years.

i got my build done today they are both holding water i still need to make a stand and the top 2 tanks i just wanted to make sure the way i built it would be water tight witch it shows to be this far. i have taken pictures threw out the build and will post them when i can get to a computer not my phone. now i just have to figure how i will build the sump and over flows.

Interested to see what you came up with.

its not a very detailed post of how i built it sorry about that.. i plan on building a stand and another level of 2 tanks in the future. i kindof threw it together as quick as i could but still made it plenty sturdy and built it right... i had to move my big tank so i could lay hardwood in the living room and this is now holding my fish for the time being :) i want to tear it down and re build it because i dont like the pond liner look... will someone tell me if using normal fiberglass and the resin that you can get from most hardware stores will work to seal it off? my plan is to silicone the glass to the wood then use the cloth on all the corners and to overlap the glass then layer and layer the resin over the wood should work just as good as epoxy and be cheaper right? i dont have much use for these 60 gal tanks so i dont want to use an expensive pond armor or anything, they are just a learning experience for the build i am drawing up in my head :screwy:

i laid the pond liner inbetween 2 1x2 ran silicone and glass inside the liner then pushed all my wieght to squeeze it together and screwed the 1x2 into place molding the rubber and silicone to the glass. (btw i got this idea from http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179928 so i am not taking any credit)

Sweetwater epoxy is not that expensive. I would have gotten away with 1 gallon except I was chicken s@%! And a nervious nilly. So I bought another gallon. $100 and you are done I think t will be cheaper in true long run not using the cloth. I just finished a 240 using sweetwater. You won't be sorry.
