Interesting- they are actually ordering people to hand over their fish to be destroyed. Probably for the best to be honest, but must suck if you live there and have a prized specimen or a pet that you love.

Where I live, invasive cichlids have devastated many of the endemic cichlid populations and taken over some areas.
So as long as aquarists are stupid enough to release non natives, or ignorant enough to put them in ponds where they can escape and survive, these measures may become more and more common.

It’s ironic that Thailand is reported to ban only three kind of cichlid. Thai is the land of Flowerhorn factories, which generated millions of culled hybrid cichlids, and numerous ornamental and food fish farms that release exotic species intentionally and unintentionally to waterways. Mekong river has already been invaded with all kind of exotic species from the Amazon as shown in the River Monster show
