Some one is donating a 55 gallon tank to the greenhouse where I work at my college, and we want something to put in it. We are not certified to keep any thing with a back bone and we can get pretty much any thing as long as its not too expensive. We were thinking of doing half land and half water. What do you guys suggest? The more variety in the tank the better!

Which ones do you want start? I can give you a list of snails that you want.:naughty:

Well it has to be fresh water to keep it low in cost but I want something that would look really cool for the kids in the labs. I dont really know where to start, my first thought was a semi terrestrial crab but I dont know what I want.

sorry lupin but snails are pretty boring i would say a muddskipper would be AUSOME for a paludarium.they are easy to keep too... vertebrates dont have to be harder to keep than invertibrates... believe my ive gotta reef tank! go for a muddskipper! you wont regret it! just add a few crabs and there are your invertibrates!

Which species did you try?

Its not that its hard to keep vertebrates, its a state college and we have to do a lot of paper work and crap to be allowed to keep any thing with a back bone in the lab. I would love to get a mudskipper but we arent certified to keep any thing with a back bone.

I would set up a paludarium. you could have a very cool emersed growth planted section and in the water portion have some colorful shrimp.

Terrestrial crabs are an idea as well, look up "rainbow" crabs. alot of crab species require brackish conditions but there are more and mor becoming available in the hobby. Here is a link with a few images: http://www.aristocratama.com/gallery/crab.html

Nice, I was looking at carnival crabs a while back, all those crabs arent freshwater are they? And apparently the tank is mine to take home with me she was just wondering if I could come up with something to do with it for the labs, yay for me! Is there any thing other than crabs or snails I could do? I want something out of the ordinary.
