hi all, has anyone had experience using this in there filters? as you may know uk tap water is 40-50 ppm, eu regulation is 50ppm...

anyway aside from deciding i dont want our family drinking this anymore (although almost everyone in the uk does!) i have been reading up on these ion exchange resins for both our drinking water and my aquariums.

how effective would 10 ounce be in each of my fx5's on my well stocked 300g. would the flow be too fast? i still plan on doing my 75% pw wc its not about getting out of maintenance its whether i could get below my tap water nitrate level?

If you mean something like purigen then it wont work cuz it removes organics from the water before they enter the nitrogen cycle. It wont help with nitrates already present. We might not be talking about the same thing though

Not sure what purigen is mate, im on about the resin that reacts and removes nitrate, done a bit more Reading and it can be very effective. Ordered 1kg for the 100g. Will post results here.

As far as I know all the Nitrate media products out there for home aquarium doesn't work or not really effective as manufacture claimed. I'm looking forward to your setup and its result turn out, thanks. :p

jaws thats a different type of resin, has a different function although i will definitely look into that aswell. the resin ive ordered is primarily for absorbing nitrate, from what ive read its dam good at it too... i think you need large amounts of it for it to have a real effect so i will do 1l in the 350l tank as a tester, if its successful i will setup an internal homemade setup running on a powerhead in the 300g!-)

Yup i just posted it cuz you said you didnt know what it was. Im curious about what your doing too. What is the product your using

bump justarn did this ever pan out ?

No mate, it's just sat in my cupboard, never got round to finding a suitable bag for the tiny balls, maybe some lady's tights would work.
