Has anyone owned this fish? It's the only cichlid in Iran, and the only non tilapia cichlid in the middle east. I just found out about them, and I really want one now, but I know that they are critically endangered so would be difficult.

Do you know if those were F0 or F1? I highly doubt they would be more than F1. Is there anyway to sex them? If I can I would defnately try breeding them, they are quite interesting. Who's picture is that? They pop up rarely on the net. The last ones I remember seeing available in the US was back in 2010. If you find them available I hope you opt for more than 1 and try breeding them. Of the few times I saw them available the fry were running about $100 each. They're an interesting mouth-brooding brackish water species.

I had no idea they were in Europe for that long! Yeah I guess sexing adults is fairly straightforward lol.Pic is from a german site and had no water mark.
As far as the available fry having been F0 or F1, I don't remember. I guess it would depend on where they were bought from. Europeans have been keeping the species for about a decade so, the strain can be up to around F12 by now.
I haven't seen any writeups on sexing subadults or younger. Sexing adults seems straightforward enough.

That sucks about you getting laid off. I wonder if those who bought it still have them.We had a member selling a group here back in 2008. I would have jumped on them had I not recently been laid off then.
That video actually got me into iranocichla hormuzensisThe last I saw them available, they were @$300.00 each, and I couldn't afford them even though I was working.
They are of Tilapine ancestry.
There is a video of Heiko Bleher catching them in Iran on his websight, (sorry about the spelling)
Looks like he is active, but he still hasn't responded to my pm lol. btw Is this in the right place or is there even a true place for it?http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?174979-5-Iranocichla-hormuzensis
