we need some info . for instance, tank size, tankmates, water quality. If everything is in check I recommend adding a drop of crushed garlic to his food, he'll smell it and won't be able to resist.
Is it? I see that particular bit of information posted on most websites providing info for these guys (well, not algae eaters but said they required softer vegetation in lieu of other foods).
i think it was on animal-world.com or aqualalandpetsplus.com
BTW this is from aqualandpets plus. really pisses me off.
"Next to Last Word. We read lots of info dissing the iridescent sharks mainly because they grow so big. Dont worry. We guaranty your iridescent shark will not grow to three feet long. In fact, if your iridescent shark grows to 18 inches, well give you your money back."
found it... http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/catfish/pangasius.php
WARNING: there are ALOT of popups on that page. i didnt put them there.
So dont hold me accountable for them.
Anywho that page talks about the Catfish becoming algar eaters.
As far as large ones eating feeders, some individual Pacu and Carp readily eat feeders too.

That is some bad info. Mine reached 18" in a 75 (before I got it) and has grown another 3" in the year I've had it.
For the OP's question about feeding - mine didn't eat for almost two weeks after I got him. Then one day he just decided he was hungry again. I feed him mostly Hikari sinking wafers, plus Massivore pellets and shrimp pellets. He eats like a pig!
