I work at an aquarium and someone brought in this adorable ID shark wanting to get rid of it because her tank wasn't big enough. My boss wanted to euthanize it but I was instantly attached and said I would take it. He's (don't really know the sex, but calling it a he) just a little guy right now and I'm going to put him in a 55 gallon tank, but he's going to outgrow that really fast. Unfortunately I don't have the space, time or money to set up the indoor pond that I want right now so he's going to need a new home once he's too big for my 55 gal. He's free to a good home with plenty of tank space, preferably with a couple other ID sharks for him to school with. I can keep him until he's a little bigger, or if you have a place for him were he won't get eaten by something bigger you can have him now.

If its just a little guy why would you boss want to kill it. He doesn't sell ID sharks in his store. I had to get rid of one to my LFS but he was 18". GL finding it a home

Your 18" probably sat in too small a tank at the LFS until it died of stress. We don't sell fish to people that they can't handle. (or at least strongly recommend against it. Some people are still determined to kill their fish) While he's little right now and probably would sell, he's going to either get too big for the person to handle or die because the tank is too small. While his external growth may be stunted by the small tank, his internal organs will keep growing until he dies. From my boss's (and my) stand point, it would be better to humanly euthanize it then to let it die like that and we don't have the tank capacity to keep him at the store for months or potentially years. I decided to take him on and work at finding him a good, long-term home because I love large fish so much and don't like that they are sold to people without them knowing what they are getting into

I fully understand. I wish pet store would not sell IDs or other fish that get really large. I wish they were only for special request to people that have the large tanks and can prove it. but I guess I live in a magical world.

He is around 5 inches right now. I'm located a little bit west of Grand Rapids.

He's a little bit small for my tanks..lol..He'd be munched for sure. my ID shark is about 15" or so.

Good luck,
Chris

Actually they put it into there indoor pond where they sell Koi. He plan to move it into his 300g display tank. But coincidentally it did die cause there pond was sick they lost half there koi as well.:(

I've never heard of euthanizing a 5" fish without trying to find a responsible owner for it, especially when the temp. holder is a pet store that could keep it for months without problem.

Very strange to me. :screwy:
