I am looking into getting a 125 gallon tank for just some different catfish species. I was looking into an iridescent shark. I want to know a few things about them though. Would they even fit in a 125 and how big do they get normally in aquariums. I was looking into them since my lfs gets a ton of them in and they look like really cool fish.

To be blunt unless u have a pond don't get pangs. They can easily ram and crack 12mm glass . They get huge and are active skittish fish

They do seem to do better in ponds with pond liners but I have managed to raise a few in glass tanks without any injuries. Although the majority will suffer some serious head/eye trauma from glass ramming

thx for the replies i dont think ill keep one i dont want to risk the fish getting injured. or the unlikely chance that it breaks the glass. I want my fish to safe and have a happy life

I think Pimelodus blochii or even a school of Pimelodus pictus is a good substitute(blochii) only grows to 10" and adapts very well to aquaria and easy to find

It's a gamble in that roughly half of IDS grow to 2'-3' in captivity. The other half of IDS that are sold through LFSs are the culls from the farming industry - dinks, runts, under-performers, etc., many of which fail to even reach 1'.

But it's hard to tell which one is which when looking at them at a LFS. The tendency is that after the IDS have spent some weeks at a LFS, the biggest ones are probably going to grow big and the smallest will remain small. It is but a tendency, I've noted.

Agree with the skittishness sentiment above, as well as their high activity and the need for a lot of swimming room.

Thx for the suggestions ill prob make a seprate thread when i get closer to stocking the tank with some suggestions. I rly want a blue eyed pleco for it and thats about as far as ive gotten
