Just moved back to florida, and where i'm located we have well water. The water has so much iron in it, that the taste and smell is horrible. I've never had experience with this before, i know some water conditioners can take out heavy metals, but i'm a little concerned.

any tips/help would be appreciated, My tanks are just sitting untill i figure this out.

Hello; I used well water for a number of years that did eventually stain the tub and sinks. It worked well in my tanks which were mainly planted. It is my understanding that iron is an additive in some plant frets for planted aquariums so you could be ahead on that score.
At any rate my feeling is that the iron itself is not so much of an issue.
It may be a good idea to have the well water tested if you plan to use it for drinking, cooking and washing. That would be a bigger concern in my mind than the iron effects for an aquarium.
good luck

the idea of planting my larger tank, is very costly. so I doubt that would be a option.

Use chemipure.

Had to do a little searching to find it, but F1VET did a good post about Pothos or Devil's Lily http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...p-plants-less-nitrate!-POTHOS&highlight=vines

They aren't true aquatic plants, but could add a decorative feature to the outside of the tank. Any green plant needs iron. I'm sure these would at least help to remove some from your water if you're that concerned about it.

not a fan of this.
skjl47 I'll have to take a look at hornwort.
