Im brand new to fish keeping, so I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not... I was walking through the fish section in a pet store a couple of weeks ago and saw an irridescent shark in a 55g tank, in the bottom rack. The poor guy was all bunged up from little kids tapping at the glass causing him to panic and run into stuff. He was a drop from some idiot that had him in a 75g with a ton of other extremely large fish, so he's all scarred up. I went home and did some research and decided to try to give him a better home. He's in a 125g with a gourami for company. Tonight when I went down to feed him I noticed some spots on him I hadn't seen before. I'm not sure wether these are scars I just hadn't noticed before, but I'm terrified he's got ich, (already rediculously attached). The gourami in the same tank seems perfectly normal... would ich be really obvious or is there any way to test for it? also any other info on him would be really helpful... most of the info online either says what great pets they are or says it's cruel to keep them so im having trouble finding anything that tells me how to care for him well.

im just not sure, would it hurt him if I treated him anyway? I read that the scaleless fish sometimes react poorly to the ich cure so I was thinking of trying the salt cure reccomended on here... i don't know if that would irritate his skin or harm the gourami?

Use a more mild ich treatment like AquariSol and start out with a little less than the recommended dose. Some ich treatments have a more diluted dose for scaless fish, and if that's the case, use that. However, my boyfriend has a columbian shark, and it is always fine with the regualr ich treatment dosage.

you know what???? PRISTINE WATER IS ALWAYS THE FIRST DEFENSE IN ANY FISH ILLNESSES!
make your water good and there is no need to apply stupid expensive medicine...

well he's only been in there for 4 days, I think he probably had whatever it is before I got him and moving him stressed him out... I'm doing a 20% water change anyways and changing out the filter material... I was just going to raise the temp. and add a little salt and see what happens... thanks for all the advise guys I really appreciate it, as usual I seem to have picked out the special needs animal, lol, such is my luck
