is 1 1/2 too thick

im planning on building a acrylic tank with the dimensions of 120 L x 48 W x 24 H and do you experts out their think 1 1/2 inch thick is to thick or just right?
 
It's a matter of cost. If you don't mind spending twice the money, then the thicker the better.
 
That's a big tank. 120 X 48 X 24 I would email tanked or glass cages and see what the pros will say. Your concern would be bowing? Standard 3/8 wouldn't be sufficient.

Not necessarily.
Its the bonding that is the most important thing. You could go 2" thick, have bad bonding and explode the tank when filled. Unless you are building the tank for extreme duty, or just want to impress, that 1.5" is to thick to be practical. If money is no object, go for it.
