i just bought a 240g acrylic tank thats 8x2x2 and did not notice this till i got it home.

there seems to be a spot on the front panel that looks warped or melted.... i really cant tell since it is almost impossible to see. the tank was setup and holding water before i got it... so i dont think there should be an issue, but i am just trying to figure out what it is. i think the best explanation would be like if someone put a hot curling iron on the acrylic or something like that. but you cannot see it, just slightly feel it from the inside. i could not get it to show up in pics with my P&S, i will try DSLR tonight

is it possible that it is a manufacturing defect or something like that?

no one has ever seen this before?

If it was setup and holding water when you got I would not worry about it.

I have seen tanks like that. As long as the tank was built well and is the appropriate thickness should not be an issue at all for many years. How thick is the acrylic?

i tried taking a picture but it is still not showing up in the picture...

i had a friend take a look and he said he thinks it might be a heater laying against the acrylic or someone used a torch to polish out a scratch

i tried to measure the acrylic and its less then 1/2 inch thick... i am guessing 3/8" with one piece euro brace on top

i tried to get pictures one more time tonight... but no luck in it showing... any picture taking tips? i did notice that there seems to be something like a spider web type looking fracture type thing that is about as thin as a hair in two spots along that distorted acrylic section, and about as round as half a pinky nail. i cant feel it at all from the outside or inside of the tank. and when i look through the acrylic along that whole section (like 4-6 inches) it distorts what i see a tiny bit. i know it was salt water before and am wondering if some of the rock work fell and the previous owner had it heat buffed.

i did measure and the sides are 1/2inch thick, the front & back & top euro brace are all 3/8 inch. its a 240 gallon (8x2x2 ft)

i am not sure what to do with the tank at this point, and am considering filling it in the garage and leaving it for a bit. if it looks good after some time i will bring it in the house. ideas?

either get your money back or take it to an acrylic repair shop thats alot of water yo be dumped on your floors. i had a 55 that had a small hairline fracture and one day i came home to a very wet basement 55 is a puddle compared to 240 gallons.
