just my opinion but footprint makes a difference but 375 is a great water volume for one or two rays for sure...

Agreed, foot print is important so needs to be three to preferably 4 foot front to back so 375gals would suit that. 12 inch rays have habits of becoming closer to 24 inch rays or do you mean fully grown? What breed are you thinking of.

I often think that 10x4 is a massive tank, which it is but it isn't a huge swimming space for 2 large rays compared to what a wild ray might cover in a day with total freedom, I prefer captive bred as they have never experienced and difference but there may be a genetic issue.

so FD..you think a 375g with only a 12" ray will be enough to support my filtration?

also...do you think a 8" ray can live in a 250? and can it support its bacteria colony?

Are you trolling here or having an off topic argument as this doesn't make sense to me, the filter supports the tank not the other way around, the bacteria supports the tank too.

An 8inch ray is fine in a 250 but it may not live there forever if the 8 inch ray is a well fed female motoro as she will outgrow it but if it is a small histrix variety male then maybe yes. As per my previous question that you did not answer, what species of ray are you talking about.

Just my opinion but water quality is key with any ray and not just water quality but water quantity because we all know that the more water volume you have the slower changes in quality happen. Rays do not need the amount of space that people think they do but they do need stable clean water. Filtration and water volume is key more so than space. Now if you are getting into breeding or have a ray that is aggressive then that is a different story. There are guys on here that have rays that people would die for and are well respected that only have 24" wide tanks and have breed multiple times. If your ray turns front to back and his nose and tail touch front to back then it is time to upgrade. Hope this helps.

What is the foot print gals mean nothing if the tank is 4ft deep but only 12inch wide

Also what's the point in stating a 12inch ray in a 375 it won't stay 12inch for long you should be asking will a motoro be ok in a 375 gal for life shouldn't you

I had 3 x 14inch disk p14 in a 350 gal and it was to small

Even if I had 1 or 6 14inch disk rays in a 350 gal that was 32 wide then yes it's to small the rays only had 2 inch space before the tails would have been hitting the back glass

A motoro can live in a 100 gal for life BUT it's life won't be that long
