Hi everyone. I currently have a redneck 125 Gallon tank setup with too many different species. I wanted to move my African child's out into a 40 gallon, but I'm worried that it may be too small for them. I was thinking about moving

1 Melanochromis
1 Auratus
1 Jewel Chiclid

The yellow auratus is small but, by far the most aggressive of all the fish I have. The Jewel Chiclid seems to get pinked out by the other Africans, but I'm thinking he may be better suited to stay in the tank with my south American chiclids. By doing this it will leave the 2 Malawi's in the 40 gallon. would this be ok, should I get more, or should I buy a bigger tank? Thanks for your time.

thanks,
Monty

Sorry about the spelling in this post. The spell checker must not have liked the word Chiclid etc.

I believe the first fish is the Vermiverous. Its blue with light blue stripes.

^^^ i agree

Ok. How many more should I add? What types should I add? Thanks for your help.

thanks,

Yes it has those demensions. I know when I was looking at the tank they said the stand would fit a 65 gallon tank as well. Tonight I went and bought 2 55 gallon tanks as well. Instead of just missmatching different types of fish I want to keep them similiar to their geographic area. It was a bad idea to put the Africans with Cental/South American Chiclids. As soon as I removed those 2 from my 125 gallon tank everything seemed to get less stressful for my other American Chiclids. I will have both 55s in a rod iron twin stand. It seems a bit wobely, but I'm hoping that it will be stable. My wife wouldn't let me get another 125 or a 180. She was ok with the footprint of the 55 twin stand after I gave her a guilt trip :) . I'm really not sure what I will put into the 2 55s yet.

I have been researching the africans quite a bit, but I still have trouble with all of the lingo. I'm guessing mbuna is the same as all of the fish from the malawi lake?

I wanted to thank you all for all of the help. I was a die hard aquarium fan coming up (I had about 6 aquariums in my room as a kid), but I have been out of the aquarium scene for a while so still learning.
